The Strategic Planning Committee Information

The Strategic Planning Committee is working to develop a strategic plan with specific goals and activities to reach those goals.  This document will provide a vision of where our district currently stands as well as where we need to go to meet the needs of our students. The Committee’s next step is to look at building an actionable plan that moves us closer to our vision and supports continuous improvement for our students.

Strategic Planning Committee meetings are open to the public, as this is a Board committee working for continuos improvement to meet the needs of our students.

Please visit the Strategic Planning Group website (on Hawthorn’s homepage, www.hawthorn73.org) to review the information and stay informed.

State Assessment Update and FAQ

In the spring of 2015, Illinois along with many other states will be assessing our students in a very different way.  Please take a few moments to look at the information below from the National PTA and our State Superintendent on how these changes will affect our students in the coming years.  As always, we thank you for your continued support of your child’s education at Hawthorn.

Another Successful Aspen Family University!

Over 140 current and prospective Aspen families and Aspen/Glasser Faculty/Staff enjoyed the Aspen Family University held on February 8, 2014.  The morning got rave reviews from teachers, parents and kids alike.  In fact, all the kids told their teachers what a great time they had (apparently they weren’t expecting to have so much fun!).  Parents in Dr. Buck’s program endured the arctic chill in the Multi-Purpose room while still managing to have a fabulous time and learn lots of great new parenting tips.  Parents in the Introductory Program received a LOT of new information and asked great questions.  We send a huge thank you to Philly G’s and their newest restaurant Tavern on 60 for the terrific lunch!

Books for Sale
We still have copies of the following books for sale:  Peaceful ParentingWhy Do Kids Act That Way?How to be a Great Parent and Secrets of Successful Relationships.  If you’d like to purchase one, please email Nicole Carson at nc.longdon@gmail.com.

Upcoming Parent Education Meetings:  March 11 and April 15 from 7:00-8:30pm
Many parents asked if we would schedule a follow-up discussion group to continue to answer questions and discuss these great ideas.  Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 11 and April 15 from 7:00-8:30 pm when we will meet to continue the discussion.  All meetings will be held at Aspen.  Both meetings are parent only events, please do not bring children. Look for fliers with sign-up information soon.
