Aspen Updates February 10, 2017

We are excited to add guest authors to Aspen’s email blast.  This week’s authors for the following Jump Rope for Heart article are:  Rebecca Portwood, Anaya Bindal and Zoe Mehta, current 4th grade students.

Jump Rope for Heart

Ever wondered what Jump Rope for Heart does with the money you donate?  Well, I have an answer!  We donate the money to the American Heart Association.  The money goes to scientists who use the money to make medicine and find cures for kids with heart diseases.  Then the medicine goes to doctors who use it to treat the patients.  Then the patients get all better!  Now you know why you donate the money – it’s not for the prizes but it’s to help kids with heart disease.

Just in case you want to know how to keep your heart healthy, ask Mr. Tusker.  He will tell you to exercise for 60 minutes a day.  You can also ask Savana Bolt, who will tell you to drink lots of water.  Finley Chitterton tells you to say no to tobacco, and Jenny Kicks tells you to watch out for hidden salt.  Join the other Jump Rope for Heart friends to help you fight heart disease.

Family University

A huge thank you to Nicole Carson and selected Aspen staff who participated in last Saturday’s Family University. A special thanks goes out to Aspen parents and students who attended the children’s programs and the adult workshops.  Great team building exercises, fun and engaging activities, and valuable tips for parents made it a very successful morning.  A great lunch, thanks to The Claim Company, was a wonderful way to end the morning.

Valentines Day

Valentines Day parties will be taking place on Tuesday, February 14 at around 1:00 p.m.  Thanks to our PTO volunteers for planning the parties.

EARLY RELEASE DAY COMING!

Be sure to mark your calendars for Wednesday, February 15, as an early release day.  Students will be dismissed at 11:25 a.m.

Next Family Night

Our next Aspen Family Night is coming up soon! Come and enjoy a night of BINGO along with a slice or two of pizza (which benefits our Aspen Giving Tree and Food Pantry), and then go shopping at our Book Fair, which will be going on at the same time.  Look for the flyer that was just sent home, RSVP, and mark your calendars for Friday, February 17, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Feed My Starving Children

Our students have been collecting spare change for the Feed My Starving Children organization for a week.  Students were told that it only take 22 cents to feed a child for one day.  We are happy to report that our Aspen students and families have been incredibly generous since we have collected $520.00 in spare change!   That will feed 2,364 children for one day.  Way to go Aspen!  Our 5th grade students will have a chance to volunteer to pack meals at the Libertyville Feed My Starving Children location soon.

OUR CLASS PICTURE DAY HAS CHANGED DATES!

WE WILL NOW HOLD OUR CLASS PICTURE DAY ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23.  Order forms will be coming home soon.  All students MUST have their order form and money with them on picture day.
