Aspen Updates February 19, 2016

The Valentines Day parties were a huge hit with our students.  Thanks PTO parents for making them a success!

Attention families who plan on attending Aspen’s Book Fair and Family Night on Friday, February 19.  We are encouraging families to carpool if at all possible.  Parking will be difficult, as Elementary South is holding their Book Fair and Family Night at the same time, and we share the parking lot.  When parking, please park in the North lot first (the lot between Aspen and Middle South).  If that fills up, please park in the front of the building as far north as possible.  Thanks!

Our Book Fair is running a fundraiser called All For Books.

About All for Books  – Turning Dollars and Coins Into Books and Smiles!

All for Books is an easy and effective way to unite the school community and provide more books for kids and teachers. All funds collected through All for Books are used to buy more books from the Book Fair.

Funds can be used to:

  • Give more students a chance to participate in the Book Fair.
  • Add new books to the school library.
  • Help teachers build and refresh their classroom libraries.
  • Donate to another school or community organization in need of books.

Scholastic Book Fairs® then matches those monetary donations with a donation of up to $1 million in books from The Scholastic Possible Fund, which distributes books to children through organizations such as the Kids In Need FoundationReader to Reader, Inc., and the National Center for Families Learning.

We are collecting for All For Books through February 24.  Send in that loose change – or even dollar bills or checks today!  ** The class that collects the most money will get a Frozen Treat Party**

The birthday breakfast with Mr. Fredricksen is being held on Friday morning, February 19, for those students with birthdays in February.

Class picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, February 23.  Order forms have already been sent home.  Please be sure and send an order form with payment to school no later than Tuesday, February 23.

Our second grade classes will be going on a field trip to Legoland on Wednesday, February 24.  Students will engage in reading and writing as they build and tell their story using LEGO bricks.  They will recount an experience they’ve had, building their characters, setting, and plot using LEGO elements.
