Aspen Updates September 1, 2017

Don’t forget that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 4 in observance of Labor Day.  Enjoy the day off!

Mark your calendars for our Back to School/Curriculum Nights.  Parents of students in Kindergarten through 2nd grades are invited to come on Tuesday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m.  For parents of students in grades 3-5, you are invited to attend on Thursday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m.  You will meet the entire staff, hear from our PTO, learn about volunteer opportunities and learn what expectations our teachers have for your students.  It’s a great evening you won’t want to miss.  This is a “parents only” event.  Hope to see you there!

Picture day is coming!  On Wednesday, September 20, your child will have the opportunity to have their individual picture taken.  ED Clark Photography is offering something new this year.  You will have the choice of being able to prepay for your order online up until 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, or send in cash or a check as you’ve done in the past.  An order form will be sent home on Wednesday, September 13.  Instructions on how to preorder your pictures will be included.

MAP testing will begin on Monday, September 11 for students in grades K-5.  We give students MAP tests to help us determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading and Mathematics.  MAP tests will be taken as a whole class on laptop computers.  The best way you can help prepare and support your child before MAP testing is to be sure they get a good night’s rest before the test and to give them a good breakfast in the morning.

Our 4th grade students may have come home with a form about being a lunchroom helper this year.  This involves our 4th graders helping our kindergarten students open lunch items, find their lunch card, help them in the lunch line, etc. during their 20 minute recess time.  If your 4th grader is interested in participating in this program, please give your permission by signing the form that came home and send it back with your student to school. Forms are due back on September 8.
