PTO Book Fair a Success!

Thank you to all our wonderful PTO volunteers who manned and worked the Scholastic Book Fair.  Our students loved the jungle theme and great book selection.  Our coin drive campaign, All For Books, was a big success and enabled some students to get a new book who might not otherwise get one.  The Scholastic Book Fair is just another way to help promote reading to our students.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Conferences took place on Thursday, February 27 and Friday, February 28.  Thank you to all parents who came and met with their child’s teacher.  Conferences are a great time to discuss a child’s progress at school and celebrate their success and discuss areas for growth.  If you didn’t have a chance to meet with your child’s teacher, please feel free to contact them by phone or email to set up a time to discuss your student.  Our goal is to build a strong partnership between parents and teachers to work together to ensure your child’s success at school.

Children’s book author Faith Goldstein visited Aspen Elementary on Friday to read her book “Gorillas’ Night Out” to kindergarten, first, and second grade students. Her book tells the story of a group of gorillas who sneak out of a zoo and have a night on the town. The students asked plenty of good questions.

Valentine's Day Parties

Our PTO room parents are busy planning amazing parties for our students to help them celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 14.  Also, please remember that when students are preparing valentines for their classmates, no food, candy, or gum is to be included.  We must stick with our “no food” policy to keep all students safe and healthy.

Random Acts of Kindness graphic

February is Random Acts of Kindness Month and Friendship Week

Aspen has declared February as Random Acts of Kindness Month.  We are encouraging all students to attempt to brighten someone else’s day by doing something kind for no specific reason at all.  Every morning we are giving all students a kindness suggestion, or encouraging them to find a kind act of their own.  Kindness matters!

Also during the week of February 10-14, Friendship Week, we will observe Aspen Spirit Days each day that week and are asking students to participate by dressing up in the following ways:

Monday, February 10 – Team Up With Your FriendsStudents are encouraged to wear your favorite team shirts, jerseys, or hats.

Tuesday, February 11 – True Hero TuesdayGood friends are super heroes!  Wear superhero t-shirts, capes or hats to school.

Wednesday, February 12 – Work It Out Wednesday Friends work it out – wear sweatpants or workout clothes to school.

Thursday, February 13 – There For You Thursday Show you are there for your friends by wearing the same colors in each grade:  Kindergarten wears orange, First Grade wears white, Second Grade wears yellow, Third Grade wears red, Fourth Grade wears green, Fifth Grade wears blue.
