Aspen Family Partnership Council (AFPC) 2016-2017 Events

Mark your calendars for the 2016-2017 AFPC events!  Our Family Nights will be:  August 26, October 14, February 17 and April 21.  The Family University will be on February 4, 2017.  Look for sign-up information to help with these events, and to volunteer on any of our AFPC Teams, at all fall back-to-school events.  Please join us for our first family night on Friday, August 26 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Aspen Elementary School-bring your dancing shoes!

Monday, September 5 – NO SCHOOL – Happy Labor Day!

Our Back to School Curriculum Nights (for PARENTS ONLY) will begin on Tuesday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. for parents of children in grades Kindergarten through second grade. For those parents of students in grades 3 through 5, our Back to School Curriculum Night will be held on Thursday, September 8 at 7:00 p.m. Come hear from your teacher what is planned for the year for your students. It’s a great night you won’t want to miss!

The bus freeze is over on Monday, September 12. If you have a need to change your child’s bus for any reason, please call the Aspen office on September 12, and they will then be able to process the bus change for you. It takes 2-3 days before the actual change will take place. Bus passes will also be changed at that time.

Aspen Family Night this Friday, August 26th

Don’t forget to join your classmates and their families at the first Aspen Family Night this Friday, August 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Enjoy a night of dancing and refreshing treats!  See you there!

Despite a rainy start to the school day, there were smiling faces all around for the nearly 515 students who entered Aspen Elementary School.

Congratulations Master Degree Recipients

The following Hawthorn District 73 certified staff were applauded by their peers for achieving their master degree.

Art Adventure Coordinator Needed!

We are looking for an Art Adventure coordinator for the kindergarten and 5th grade lessons. You do not have to have those aged kids in order to help out! The volunteer assembles supplies for the two kindy lesssons and the three 5th grade lessons, as well as coordinates the 5th grade Art Institute Field Trip. You are still welcome to help present the lessons in your own kids’ classrooms. Please email Robyn Kaufman at robynkaufman24@yahoo.com if you are willing to help out! Thank you!

Missed the Residency Event?

If you missed the residency event, please stop in at the District Office,  841 West End Ct, Vernon Hills, to show proof of residency. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. To expedite the residency verification process, District 73 parents should bring copies of ALL documents, including a photo ID, and the original required documents. To expedite the residency verification process, District 73 parents should bring copies of ALL documents, including a photo ID, and the original required documents. Copies are required for each child who will attend a District 73 school in the fall.

At least one parent/guardian from all District 73 families must prove residency each school year. The district-wide Residency Event will be held on:

  • Monday, August 8th: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Aspen Updates June 3, 2016

Fly Away – 5th graders – Tuesday, June 7

 A school wide assembly will take place on Tuesday, June 7, at 12:45 p.m. where we will be saying farewell to all students and congratulating our 5th grade students as they “fly away” to Middle School.  Attendance certificates and other awards will be given out at that time.  Parents are invited to attend in the gym.

 

 End of the year class parties, sponsored by the PTO, are taking place over the next few days.  Thank you to all parents who will be helping our students celebrate the end of a great year.

Report cards will be sent home with all students on Tuesday, June 7.  There are many other important items being sent home in the report card envelope including MAP scores, Reading Goals, Six Flags Reading certificates, etc.  If students are not in school on the last day, you will have to make arrangements to come to school to get your child’s report card after June 7.  We are unable to mail report cards home.
